“What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.”

— Karl Lagerfeld

Hi there, my name is Roos! And that’s me (—>), shot by my talented fellow Fotoacademie student Jasmijn Bastings! Karl Lagerfeld describes best what I love about photography. Ever since I was a little child I loved wandering around with my camera. Seeing the world through my lens allows me to be present. It allows me to see so much more in the world around me and it allows me to tell a story without words.

I feel the urge to use photography to convey complex social issues, to make social impact. I want my visual stories to evoke emotions and inspire viewers to think critically about societal issues, maybe even driving social change.

A few of the photographers that inspire me are Zanele Muholi, Erwin Olaf, Vivian Maier, Bruce Davidson, Ed van der Elsken, Jasper Doest and Kadir van Lohuizen.
